Craig Wright Claims Copyright Over Bitcoin White Paper

Karma has come to kick yours truly in the teeth apparently. Whereas I informed you all a couple of days ago that with Tether versus New York AG and XRP versus SEC we probably had the biggest 2021 crypto court cases on our hands already, Craig Wright must have thought: hold my beer.

The man who infamously claims to be the original Satoshi Nakamoto has instructed his attorneys to send letters informing several websites who host the Bitcoin white paper that they are in breach of copyright law.

Bitcoin.org, one of the targeted websites, reacted with a press statement which said:

Yesterday both Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org received allegations of copyright infringement of the Bitcoin whitepaper by lawyers representing Craig Steven Wright. In this letter, they claim Craig owns the copyright to the paper, the Bitcoin name, and ownership of bitcoin.org.

They also claim he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, and the original owner of bitcoin.org. Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org were both asked to take down the whitepaper. We believe these claims are without merit, and refuse to do so.

For those of you in the don’t know, Craig Wright is an Australian businessman who claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

Several high-profile names in the cryptosphere however, such as Vitalik Buterin, don’t think it’s him at all. it all started back in 2015 when parallel investigations by magazines Wired and Gizmodo suggested that Wright may have been the inventor of Bitcoin, which back then was still trading for dollars.

Defamation

Given that most crypto media and personalities don’t believe Wright’s claim that he is in fact Satoshi, the businessman has started multiple lawsuits against anyone repeating this in public.

In the past he’s served legal notices to Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum (who famously called Wright a fraud) and Roger Ver, an early Bitcoin entrepreneur and advocate.
