Cheapest way to buy Bitcoin
In the overview you can see where you can buy Bitcoin cheaply right now. Keep in mind these are the prices for one whole Bitcoin. For a smaller amount, such as 0.01 Bitcoin, most exchanges add a fee, so also watch the spread between the buy and sell price.
Effective fees include our exclusive discounts where available. Fees are indicative; check the exchange for current rates.
Cost of buying 1 BTC
The table below shows the trading fees you would pay at each exchange, based on the live price. For low-priced coins the calculation uses a purchase of €100 so the fees stay meaningful.

How to buy Bitcoin, step by step
Choose an exchange with a MiCA authorisation
Compare the exchanges above on trading fees, payment methods and range. All listed parties hold a MiCA authorisation. Create an account with your email and switch on two-factor authentication straight away.
Complete your identity check
Under MiCA, verifying your identity is mandatory. Provide a valid ID document and a selfie or short video, typically approved within minutes.
Deposit euros
Add money from € 5 via credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero. A card or Wero deposit is almost instant, and a SEPA transfer, though free, takes a working day.
Buy BTC
Choose Bitcoin, enter an amount in euros and confirm. You do not have to buy a whole Bitcoin, 0.001 BTC is fine too, at the price applying at that moment.
Store it
Leave your BTC on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. For larger amounts held for longer, a wallet of your own is safer.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy Bitcoin with:
- iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
- Bancontact: Direct (BE)
- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
- PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy Bitcoin?
You can buy Bitcoin at various European exchanges from as little as € 5, and technical knowledge is no longer needed. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation and have a good reputation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
MiCA took effect across the entire European Union on 30 December 2024. The temporary arrangements that let already registered firms continue lapsed in 2025, which means a national registration on its own no longer suffices. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- A regulator in the EU monitors the exchange on an ongoing basis
- Your holdings are kept apart from the exchange’s own funds
- Costs and risks have to be made clear up front
- There are rules against market abuse and a mandatory complaints procedure
- A required KYC check confirms your identity
Being authorised says nothing about the price risk, which remains with you.
The Bitcoin price and volatility
Investing in Bitcoin is risky, as the BTC price can rise quickly but fall just as fast. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you do not need for essentials such as rent, a mortgage, groceries or emergencies.

Buying Bitcoin is possible from € 5 and you do not have to buy a whole BTC, so € 100 of Bitcoin is fine too. Nobody can reliably tell you the right moment to enter. Tops and bottoms are clear afterwards, not in advance. One approach some investors use to spread that timing is dollar cost averaging, buying a fixed amount at regular intervals.
What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is the first and best-known cryptocurrency in the world, and is often seen as digital gold. With a capped supply of 21 million coins it is designed to be scarce. New coins enter circulation through mining, and roughly every four years the reward for miners is halved, an event called the halving. The last halving was in April 2024, after which the block reward went to 3.125 BTC, and the next is expected in 2028.
Since the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States in early 2024, there has been a large inflow of institutional capital, and major asset managers such as BlackRock and Fidelity now offer Bitcoin products. In parallel, the Lightning Network makes fast, cheap transactions possible, which makes Bitcoin more usable for everyday payments.
Storing Bitcoin in a wallet
After your purchase, your BTC sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: provided on the platform, easy, but you do not own the keys
- Software wallet: an app on your phone or computer, such as BlueWallet or an Electrum wallet, handy for smaller amounts and everyday use
- Hardware wallet: a Ledger or Trezor device that keeps your keys offline, the safest pick for larger amounts
When you hold your own wallet you get a recovery phrase of twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever knows it can access your BTC, so keep it offline, never pass it on and never take a photo. If you lose the phrase, your Bitcoin is lost as well.
How do I choose an exchange to buy Bitcoin?
Each exchange provides the same BTC, so the difference sits in the terms:
- The trading fees and spread you will pay
- Which regulator signed off the MiCA authorisation
- How quickly BTC is delivered after payment
- Whether there is a mobile app for Android and iOS
- A broad range of coins if you also want other cryptocurrencies
- Good support in your language
- Which payment methods you have access to (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The Bitcoin price can move sharply up or down, which an authorisation cannot change. Decide for yourself how much you are willing to lose and do your own research.
