How to buy TRON, step by step
Choose an exchange with a MiCA authorisation
Find an exchange in the list above that holds a MiCA authorisation and offers Tron. Create an account and switch on two-factor authentication straight away.
Complete your identity check
A KYC check is required under MiCA. You submit a valid ID document and a selfie or brief video, which usually takes only a few minutes.
Deposit euros
Deposit from € 5 using a credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero. Credit card and Wero credit almost instantly, and a SEPA transfer is free but a day slower.
Buy TRX
Choose Tron, enter an amount in euros and confirm. A fraction of a TRX is fine, at the price applying at that moment.
Store or stake it
Leave your TRX on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. You can also lock up TRX on the network to receive a reward and vote on the network.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy TRON with:
- iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
- Bancontact: Direct (BE)
- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
- PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy Tron?
You can buy Tron at various European exchanges from as little as € 5. You will only find exchanges with a MiCA authorisation here. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
MiCA has applied across the European Union since 30 December 2024. National transition arrangements for previously registered firms wound down during 2025, so on its own a national registration is no longer sufficient. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
- Your money and crypto are ring-fenced from the exchange’s own holdings
- The provider must set out fees and risks clearly beforehand
- You must complete a KYC identity verification
An authorisation says nothing about price movements, a risk that remains yours.
The Tron price and volatility
Investing in crypto is risky and the value can rise or fall. The chart below gives an impression of how the TRX price has moved over time. Only put in what you can afford to lose.

What is Tron?
Tron is a smart contract blockchain focused on fast and cheap transactions. The project was founded in 2017 by Justin Sun. TRX started as a token on Ethereum and moved to its own blockchain in 2018. In that same year Tron acquired the file-sharing network BitTorrent.
Tron works with Delegated Proof of Stake. Holders of TRX vote for a limited number of so-called Super Representatives, which take turns processing the transactions, making the network fast and cheap. Tron has become especially big as a network for stablecoins: a sizeable part of all transfers in USDT, the dollar stablecoin from Tether, runs over Tron, precisely because of those low costs and high speed. TRX itself is used to pay transaction costs and network resources.
Recent developments
For years Tron was tied up in a lawsuit in the United States. In March 2023 the regulator SEC sued Justin Sun and the Tron entities over, among other things, the sale of unregistered securities and market manipulation. In March 2026 that case ended with a settlement, in which Sun paid around 10 million dollars. In addition, in 2025 Tron gained a listing on the traditional stock market through a reverse takeover of a US-listed company, under the name Tron Inc., which lets investors gain exposure through the share market too.
Staking Tron
On Tron you can lock up your TRX on the network, which is called staking or freezing. This gives you network resources such as energy and bandwidth to transact more cheaply, and you can vote on the Super Representatives. In return you receive a reward. This can be done directly from a Tron wallet or at an exchange that offers staking, in which case your TRX sits with a third party, usually for a fee, and unfreezing locked TRX has a waiting period.
Storing Tron in a wallet
After your purchase, your TRX sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: integrated at the exchange and easy to use, but the keys are not yours
- Software wallet: TronLink or Trust Wallet, which give you access to the Tron network
- Hardware wallet: an offline device such as a Ledger or Trezor for your keys, safest when you hold more
With your own wallet you get a recovery phrase, twelve or twenty-four words as a rule. Whoever knows those words controls your TRX, so keep them offline, share with no one and never take a photo. Lose them and your Tron cannot be recovered.
How do I choose an exchange to buy Tron?
Since every exchange hands you the same TRX, the difference is in the terms:
- How costly the trading fees and spread are
- The regulator that issued the MiCA authorisation
- Whether you can stake Tron through the exchange
- How quickly it is delivered after payment
- Whether an app and language support are on offer
- What ways there are to pay (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The Tron price can swing hard, and no authorisation changes that. Work out for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
