eToro review 2026

3,6 / 5 our rating

eToro is a well regulated multi asset platform with distinctive social tools. It is expensive for crypto only: a standard purchase and later sale costs about 2% before market spread, while an eligible wallet transfer can add another 2%.

eToro combines crypto with stocks, ETFs, currencies, commodities and social investing tools. That broad product range is the main reason to use it. If your only goal is low cost crypto trading, there are cheaper options.

The standard crypto fee is high. Most users pay 1% when buying and another 1% when selling. Moving an eligible position to the built-in crypto wallet costs a further 2%.

eToro review summary

eToro is a multi asset broker. Its European entity holds a MiCA licence for crypto services and a CySEC investment firm licence. Customers outside the EEA can be served by a different entity with different products, fees and protections. eToro USA, for example, does not offer CFDs.

eToro social trading

CopyTrader is the platform’s defining feature. It automatically mirrors the current and future trades of another investor. This is convenient, but it is not a shortcut to guaranteed returns. Bad decisions and losses are copied as efficiently as profitable trades.

For European crypto buyers, a specialised exchange such as Bitvavo is generally cheaper. eToro makes more sense when you deliberately want several asset classes and social features in the same portfolio.

Pros

  • MiCA authorised for crypto services in the EEA
  • Crypto, stocks and ETFs in one platform
  • CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios
  • Free demo portfolio
  • Easy to use web and mobile apps

Cons

  • Standard 1% fee on both crypto purchases and sales
  • Transferring eligible crypto to the wallet costs another 2%
  • Not every crypto position can be moved to an external wallet
  • CopyTrader automatically copies losses too
  • CFDs and regional legal entities make the product structure complex

Do you buy real crypto on eToro?

An unleveraged long position can represent ownership of the cryptoasset. Short positions, leveraged positions and some regionally restricted products are executed as CFDs. A CFD does not give you ownership of the underlying crypto and cannot be sent to a wallet.

Always read the trade ticket before confirming an order. eToro marks CFD positions. The result can depend on your country, the asset and current regulation.

Even a real crypto position is initially held within eToro’s custody environment. Only supported assets and eligible positions can move to the Wallet tab. Crypto held through CopyTrader or Smart Portfolios cannot be transferred directly.

Opening an eToro account

  1. Register and identify the legal entity serving your country.

  5. Use a local currency account when available to reduce conversion costs.
  6. Check whether each order is real crypto or a CFD.
  7. Review estimated fees and market spread.
  8. Start small, particularly when using CopyTrader.

eToro multi asset platform

CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios

CopyTrader lets you filter investors by performance, risk score and trading history. The current minimum copied position is $200. Historical returns may come from a favourable market period and do not predict future results.

Smart Portfolios combine assets around a theme or strategy. eToro does not charge a separate management fee, but the normal costs of the underlying positions remain. Portfolios containing crypto can therefore still be expensive.

Treat risk scores as one input, not a guarantee. A portfolio that previously showed low volatility can fall sharply when market conditions change.

eToro fees

Bronze, Silver and Gold members pay 1% per manual crypto transaction. That is 1% to buy and another 1% to sell. Higher Club tiers receive discounts, but require account balance or subscription eligibility, and the lowest rates require very high monthly volume.

Market spread remains an economic cost even though eToro describes it as a market condition rather than its own markup. The bid and ask difference can widen for illiquid assets or volatile markets.

Transferring crypto from the investment platform to the eToro wallet costs 2%, with a $1 minimum and $100 maximum. A blockchain fee may apply when sending externally. Selling crypto from the wallet into euros, pounds or dollars costs 0.6% to 1%, depending on Club level.

Fees and costs

The crypto tier table applies to manual real crypto positions on the general international platform. CFDs, CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios use different fee rules. A variable market spread also applies. Regional pricing can differ, including in the United States.

eToro or a specialist crypto exchange?

For EEA users focused on crypto, Bitvavo offers substantially lower standard spot fees. eToro is more compelling when you also want stocks, ETFs or CopyTrader.

Compare the full journey rather than one headline fee. Buying, selling, spread, currency conversion and wallet transfer can all affect the final result.

Outside Europe, availability and alternatives differ. Check the entity named in your account agreement and use a locally authorised provider.

Is eToro safe and regulated?

eToro (Europe) Ltd received a CySEC MiCA licence in January 2025 for regulated crypto trading and custody across the EEA. It also operates as a Cypriot investment firm under licence 109/10.

The eToro Group listed on Nasdaq in 2025, adding public company reporting. This is a positive transparency factor, but it does not guarantee investments or crypto balances.

Protection depends on the product and entity. Investment services, MiCA crypto services and CFDs do not automatically share the same compensation arrangements. Read the legal notice attached to your account and order.

eToro user experience

The app, demo portfolio and combined market access make eToro approachable. Its social feed and CopyTrader provide more context than a conventional exchange.

The cost structure has many layers. The 1% fee on each side of a crypto trade and 2% wallet transfer are particularly expensive. The distinction between real crypto and a CFD can also be confusing when local rules change how an order is executed.

CFDs are complex instruments and leverage can cause rapid losses. Copy trading is not investment advice, and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Conclusion of our eToro review

eToro is a properly regulated platform with a distinctive combination of CopyTrader, crypto and traditional investments. That breadth can justify the cost for users who genuinely want an all-in-one product.

We do not consider it the best choice for crypto alone. A standard purchase and later sale costs about 2% before market spread, and a wallet transfer can add another 2%. Use the demo, check whether every position is a real asset or CFD and never copy another investor blindly.
