Coinmama Review 2026

2,4 / 5 our rating

Coinmama remains an accessible global on-ramp, but the pricing is far too high for ordinary European users. Its aggregator model also means the actual transaction provider changes. Bitvavo is cheaper, directly MiCA authorised and more transparent.

Coinmama is a well known crypto on-ramp that has operated since 2013. It supports many countries and payment methods, but it is one of the most expensive ways to buy crypto.

Coinmama charges 0.99% to 3.9% depending on loyalty level. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay purchases add 4.99%. The combined cost can therefore reach 8.89%, before any bank fee or exchange rate difference.

Coinmama review summary

Coinmama no longer functions only as the classic broker described in the old review. Its 2026 terms say that purchases and sales are routed through identified third party providers, while Coinmama acts as an aggregator and affiliate platform.

The service also provides CM Wallet, a non-custodial wallet. Coinmama does not control the private keys or crypto in that wallet. The user must secure the recovery information.

More than 100 assets and many payment methods are useful. The costs and fragmented provider structure are not. European users can normally trade much more cheaply through a directly MiCA authorised exchange.

Pros

  • Operating since 2013
  • Available in many countries
  • More than 100 supported cryptocurrencies

  • Non-custodial CM Wallet
  • SEPA has no additional processing fee

Cons

  • Commission of 0.99% to 3.9% is high
  • Card and mobile wallet payments add 4.99%
  • A card purchase can total 5.98% to 8.89% before bank charges
  • Coinmama now routes purchases through third party providers
  • No direct Coinmama MiCA authorisation verified
  • No order book or maker and taker fees
  • Bank transfer price is not locked until funds arrive

What is Coinmama?

Coinmama started in 2013 and is now part of Canadian listed company Wellfield Technologies. The website connects users with providers that execute crypto purchases and sales.

There is no traditional exchange order book. You select an asset, amount and payment method, receive a quote and send the crypto to a supported wallet. The provider shown in the transaction determines execution and part of the legal relationship.

Account and identity verification

An account requires personal information and identity verification. Coinmama or the transaction provider can request an identity document, selfie, proof of address, payment evidence and source of funds.

How to open an account with Coinmama

1

Create an account

Open a free account and verify your identity (KYC) with an ID. This usually takes just a few minutes.

2

Deposit funds

Add euros with a payment method that suits you. Bank methods are usually free.

3

Buy Coinmama

Go to the Coinmama market, enter the amount you want to invest and confirm. You can buy a fraction; you don't need a whole coin.

4

Store it safely

Keep your Coinmama in the exchange wallet or move it to your own wallet for full control. Never share your private keys or seed phrase.

Historical Coinmama advantages

The screenshot is historical. Product availability, limits and the company executing the order now depend on the current checkout.

Coinmama fees

Coinmama publishes a commission range of 0.99% to 3.9%. The applicable percentage depends on the loyalty level. New and low volume customers should expect the upper part of the range unless their preview says otherwise.

Payment processing is separate:

  • card, Apple Pay and Google Pay: 4.99%;
  • Skrill and Neteller: 2.50%;
  • SEPA and eligible bank transfers: 0% processing.

The 0% for SEPA does not mean a free purchase. Coinmama’s commission still applies, the crypto rate is not locked until the money arrives and the execution provider’s final quote matters.

Fees and costs

Coinmama's 0.99% to 3.9% commission is separate from payment processing. A card, Apple Pay or Google Pay purchase adds 4.99%, producing a combined 5.98% to 8.89% before any bank or exchange rate costs. The third party provider and final quote remain decisive.

Coinmama or Bitvavo?

Bitvavo is the better European option. It has a MiCA authorisation from the Dutch AFM and starts at 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker.

A €1,000 card purchase at Coinmama can cost €59.80 to €88.90 before other charges. A €1,000 Bitvavo taker order costs €2.50 at the base rate. The difference is too large to ignore.

Payment methods and delivery

Coinmama supports cards, SEPA, instant bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay and several international methods. Availability differs by country.

Card orders are usually faster because the rate can be locked during payment. With a bank transfer, the rate is only fixed after funds arrive, so the received amount can change with the market.

CM Wallet and security

CM Wallet is non-custodial. Coinmama does not charge for receiving, sending or controlling assets, but normal blockchain network fees apply to sends.

Self custody removes the need to leave assets at a broker, but creates personal responsibility. Losing the recovery data can make the wallet permanently inaccessible. Never share it with support or a supposed recovery service.

Historical Coinmama packages

Regulation

Coinmama’s current terms describe it as an aggregator, not the party that necessarily executes each purchase. We could not verify a direct Coinmama MiCA authorisation.

European customers should check the name and licence of the third party shown at checkout. A provider’s licence cannot be assumed merely because the Coinmama website is accessible.

Conclusion of our Coinmama review

Coinmama receives 2.4 out of 5. The service is accessible, established and offers self custody, but its commissions and card costs are excessive.

For routine euro purchases, Bitvavo is directly regulated, far cheaper and more transparent. Coinmama only makes sense when a particular country or payment method leaves no better option.

When it comes to cryptocurrency mostly Bitcoin at the moment, there are always two sides; as some people will want the price to fall to its lower dip for them to buy cheap, while others will hold and wait till it sky rocket for them to sell off, but i really see all this so pointless if it can't yield great result or grow a very strong portfolio. It's clear now that the halving is not what we all imagined and expected initially but the good thing for me was that i did not put all my faith in it as i so much believe in day trading and was able to grow a very strong portfolio. However this i have been doing since the last bear market with John Holt s strategy and daily signals which has proven to be very effective, accurate and profitable. Last month i was able to grow a total of 3.9btc having traded with my initial 1.8btc with John's daily signals which you would agree is a very good profit. My advice is for everyone to make use of such signals so as to grow a very strong portfolio ahead of halving coming soon, John can be reached via Telgram @johnhilot2 Net for inquiries into profitable trading systems.
