Bitnovo Review 2026

2,5 / 5 our rating

Bitnovo still has a distinctive voucher network and self custody wallet, but the European regulatory position is not strong enough for us to recommend it. Costs can also rise well above the advertised 0.99%. Bitvavo is the clearer alternative.

Bitnovo is a Spanish crypto service best known for cash vouchers and its self custody wallet. The website remains online, but we do not recommend it to European users while Pressbrokers S.L. has no MiCA authorisation that we can verify.

The advertised 0.99% purchase commission is not always the full cost. Payment charges may apply, swaps average roughly 2% to 3% and vouchers can include retailer, Bitnovo and blockchain fees.

Bitnovo review summary

Bitnovo has operated since 2014 and offers crypto purchases through SEPA, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and prepaid vouchers. The non-custodial wallet lets users control their own recovery phrase.

The voucher network is unusual and useful for someone who specifically wants to pay cash at a shop. It is not automatically cheap. A voucher may have an issuance cost at the retailer, a redemption cost and a network fee.

Regulation is our main concern. Pressbrokers held older national registrations, including Bank of Spain registration D687 and French PSAN registration E2023-102. The French AMF lists that registration as expired automatically on 2 July 2026 because the MiCA transition ended. We could not find Pressbrokers in the current MiCA register.

Pros

  • Crypto vouchers available through many physical retailers
  • Self custody wallet with user controlled recovery phrase
  • SEPA, cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Purchase base commission of 0.99%
  • Operating since 2014
  • Services for consumers and businesses

Cons

  • No MiCA authorisation for Pressbrokers could be verified
  • Former French PSAN registration expired in July 2026
  • Swaps cost roughly 2% to 3%
  • Voucher costs are split between several parties
  • Users must complete KYC before redeeming a voucher
  • No transparent order book or maker and taker trading

What is Bitnovo?

Bitnovo is operated by Pressbrokers S.L. in Valencia. It combines a broker style buying service, crypto swaps, vouchers, a self custody wallet and services for businesses.

It does not offer the transparent order book and maker or taker pricing of a normal exchange. The user receives a quote and must compare the net amount with the wider market.

MiCA status

An old VASP or PSAN registration is not a MiCA licence. The former French registration expired after the transition period, and we could not verify a current MiCA authorisation for Pressbrokers S.L.

Bitnovo’s website still offers registration and purchases. Until the legal entity and MiCA passport are clearly verifiable, we do not provide a direct signup recommendation for EEA users.

Bitnovo fees

The published base commission for buying crypto is 0.99%. Depending on the method, a card or digital wallet processing fee may be added. Third party platforms and ATMs can add their own surcharge.

Crypto swaps have a different cost. Bitnovo’s help centre gives a general average of 2% to 3% depending on the assets. That is expensive compared with a low fee order book exchange.

Fees and costs

The 0.99% figure is only Bitnovo's base purchase commission. The final price can also include payment, retailer, voucher and network costs. Swaps have a separate average cost of 2% to 3%. Review the net crypto amount before confirming.

Bitnovo vouchers

Vouchers can be purchased online or through physical retailers and redeemed for crypto after registration and identity verification.

Historical Bitnovo voucher

Complete KYC before buying a voucher. If registration later fails, Bitnovo says it cannot normally refund a code sold by a third party. The user must ask the original retailer and follow its prepaid product policy.

Bitnovo or Bitvavo?

Bitvavo holds a MiCA authorisation from the Dutch AFM and publishes base fees of 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker. That is cheaper and easier to verify than Bitnovo’s combination of base commission and variable extras.

Bitnovo only has a clear advantage when a cash voucher or its particular self custody wallet is essential. For ordinary euro trading, we prefer Bitvavo.

Wallet and security

Bitnovo Wallet is self-custodial. The user controls the recovery phrase and can export it. This reduces custodial platform risk, but it also means Bitnovo cannot restore assets when the phrase is lost or disclosed.

KYC is required for buying, selling and redeeming vouchers. Published levels start at €5,000 for Basic and €15,000 for Intermediate, with source of funds checks for higher limits.

Conclusion of our Bitnovo review

Bitnovo receives 2.5 out of 5. Vouchers and self custody are distinctive, but costs become fragmented and the current European MiCA status is not sufficiently clear.

We advise EEA users to choose an active MiCA authorised exchange. Bitvavo is our preferred alternative.
