Why we need to find out who Satoshi is

At the end of Cullen Hoback’s recent HBO documentary, it was suggested that Peter Todd is the inventor of Bitcoin, aka the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto.

Todd denies it, and many crypto fans were actually unimpressed with Hoback’s latest project. They also don’t really think that Peter Todd is the inventor of digital currencies.

But who is or was Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin? And why do we absolutely need to find out about this?

Origin block

Well, first of all, because it is important to know who gave us a new industry and is currently one of the richest people in the world (Satoshi is the owner of the first million Bitcoins mined).

And secondly, suppose Satoshi has already died in the meantime (which would explain why we don’t hear from him anymore), then his reputation will probably remain intact and we can be sure that he (or she) can’t do anything anymore to put Bitcoin to shame ever. That’s a relief

The documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery claims that former Bitcoin Core developer Peter Todd is the elusive creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. However, Todd has strongly denied the accusation, saying he did not invent Bitcoin.

This also means that the ‘origin block’, the mysterious first million Bitcoins, will never be converted to fiat and tens of billions of dollars in value will be lost.

Yet there is also a third possibility. Let’s assume Satoshi is still alive but does not want to become a worldwide celebrity. He probably knew that the value of Bitcoin would rise and therefore bought several hundred Bitcoins in recent years and made money from the rising price. Lastly, he’ll therefore never touch the billions of the ‘origin block’ because he knows that his identity will be revealed if he does.

Whatever it is, the mystery is still unsolved.
