TikTok is being flooded with Elon Musk crypto scams

Tesla boss Elon Musk is clearly the most popular billionaire on social media, otherwise criminals would not only use his portrait to unleash crypto scams on the many billions of TikTok users.

Last week there was a new one, with Elon Musk and Amber Heard as a cosplay action figure, but by now even that one is old news in the fast moving world of social media.

TikTok prohibition

Although some US states wanted to impose a total TikTok ban earlier this year and the European Commission even banned its members from installing the app on their smartphones for work, the social media platform of the Chinese company Bytedance is still highly popular.

According to security company Norton, there are now many deepfakes representing Elon Musk on TikTok. They all invite you with some kind of ‘promo code’. After entering that code, the TikTok video promises that you can receive 0.33 Bitcoin, or a good $9,000.

The problem is that if you click on that link, you are redirected to very professional-looking, but nonetheless all fake websites. So please never click on this.

If you do so and enter your details, you will be told that you first have to pay a registration fee of .005 Bitcoin, or some $110. Of course you will never see that money again.

So pay attention when surfing TikTok.
