Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Purchases and Builds Cash Reserve to $5.1B

Strategy is again not buying Bitcoin and keeps its stockpile of 840,447 BTC unchanged. Instead, the company is expanding its dollar reserve to $5.1 billion. In addition, Strategy has a further $1.59 billion in new capital at its disposal, which can be used for future Bitcoin purchases, among other things. This comes as Bitcoin climbs back above $78.000.

Strategy now has $5.1 billion in reserve

Strategy raised roughly $2 billion last week by selling 18.26 million MSTR shares. Part of that money flows directly into the dollar reserve. The company is adding $300 million to it, bringing the reserve to $5.1 billion.

That cash buffer matters because, alongside its huge Bitcoin position, Strategy also has financial obligations. According to the figures shared, the current reserve would cover around 3.9 years of dividend payments.

In addition, $1.59 billion of newly raised funds remains available outside this specific reserve. Strategy can use this capital for Bitcoin, dividend and interest payments, or buying back its own securities.

Last week, for example, the company used $136.4 million to buy back STRC. At the same time, Strategy still has around $19.69 billion of capacity available to issue new MSTR shares.

No new Bitcoin purchases for more than two months

What is more striking for the crypto market is what Strategy is not doing. The company is again not buying Bitcoin, leaving the total position at 840,447 BTC.

Strategy has thus stayed on the sidelines as a buyer for more than two months, despite Bitcoin’s sharp moves. The pause does not automatically mean the company is abandoning its Bitcoin strategy. With billions of dollars in available liquidity, Strategy has plenty of room to move again.

At a Bitcoin price of around $78.200, the 840,447 BTC represent a market value of roughly $65.72 billion. Every 1% move in Bitcoin therefore theoretically has an impact of about $657 million on the value of this position.

Bitcoin retakes $78.000 in the meantime

While Strategy leaves its Bitcoin stockpile untouched, the price continues to climb. Bitcoin has retaken $78.200, extending the strong recovery of recent days.

Developments in the US bond market are also drawing attention. The US Treasury could start buying back more bonds. Such operations can affect liquidity in financial markets, but they do not automatically mean new money is flowing directly into Bitcoin.

For Strategy, a striking situation is emerging. The company already holds 840,447 BTC, is not buying more for now, and is simultaneously accumulating billions of dollars in liquid assets. That grows its financial room to buy Bitcoin again later, should Strategy choose to do so.
