OKX Card Usage Surges Across Europe as Daily Payments Soar
Europeans are increasingly using crypto for everyday payments. Purchase volume via the OKX Card is 280% higher this summer than a year ago, while the number of transactions is up 178%. Groceries, transport and fuel in particular are quickly gaining ground.
Crypto increasingly used for everyday spending
According to OKX figures, use of the card in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Poland among other countries is growing strongly. Between February and July, the monthly number of users paying for groceries with the OKX Card rose by 65%.
The trend accelerates from May. Between May and July, the number of users paying for groceries increased by 221%. For transport and fuel, growth reached 263%.
The amounts spent are also rising sharply. Grocery purchase volume grew by 482% in the same period, while transport and fuel recorded a 530% increase.
Poland is leading the way. Groceries, transport and utilities now account for 31.7% of all OKX Card spending there. In the Netherlands that figure is 22.2%, compared with 20.4% in Germany and 14.1% in France.
The development fits into a broader shift. Total purchase volume with crypto cards hit a record $759 million in July, according to the figures supplied.
OKX links crypto directly to Mastercard payments
The OKX Card runs on the Mastercard network and can be linked to Apple Pay and Google Pay where available. Users can fund their OKX Pay account with fiat money and supported stablecoins or other crypto.
OKX is also courting users with cashback. Depending on the terms, customers can receive 2% to 10% cashback on eligible everyday purchases. For certain subscriptions, including Netflix and ChatGPT, temporary offers can refund up to 50%.
Anyone who wants to review the offer terms themselves can do so via the OKX Card page.
Using the OKX referral code 20PROCENT, new users can claim 20% off trading fees for life plus €20 in Bitcoin, according to the offer terms. Always check the current terms and availability for your country before taking part.
The strong growth in everyday spending is particularly interesting because it means crypto cards are becoming less of a tool reserved for active crypto traders. Crypto is gradually shifting towards something far more ordinary: doing the grocery shopping, filling up the car and travelling.
