Nigel Farage’s crypto woes continue to mount

In the highly interesting book ‘If Russia Wins’ (originally published in the summer of 2025), author Carlo Massala predicts that Russia will face far less political opposition in Europe by 2028, because far-right parties will be in power in most of the EU’s major countries by then. He cites Germany, France and the United Kingdom as examples.

Farage’s problem is that the many crypto scandals keep haunting him.

As a result, the only thing Farage discusses with interviewers these days is why he accepts money from foreign investors, usually crypto billionaires.

Harborne

In April 2026, The Guardian revealed that Nigel Farage received a £5 million donation from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, one of Tether’s largest shareholders, shortly before he announced that he would stand in the 2024 British parliamentary elections after all.

Farage had previously said repeatedly that he would not be a candidate for the House of Commons, but in June 2024 he made an unexpected U-turn. That decision came only a few weeks after he had received the multi-million-pound sum from the Thailand-based businessman.

The Reform UK leader continues to insist that the donation was a strictly personal matter, not a political donation. As a result, he argues, the amount did not fall under the obligation to report it to the parliamentary authorities. Although Farage has given several different explanations for the money over time, he most often cites security reasons as his motivation, saying political opponents make him feel unsafe.

Harborne’s lawyers, meanwhile, stress that their client ‘expected nothing in return’ for the donation and ‘did not foresee that Farage would return to active politics’.

The gift is now the subject of an investigation by the British Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and Ethics. That investigation was resumed last month after Farage won a by-election in Clacton.

Delo

This month it also emerged that British crypto billionaire Ben Delo transferred a further £4 million to Reform UK in early 2026. The crypto entrepreneur, who operated from Hong Kong for years, had previously supported the party with the same amount, bringing his total contribution to £8 million.

Delo came under scrutiny in the United States in 2022, where he was convicted because his crypto company had taken insufficient measures to prevent money laundering. He was later pardoned by then President Donald Trump. Despite that controversy, he is now among Reform UK’s biggest financiers.
