Memecoins Make Comeback as Market Grows 17% in a Month and Several Coins Surge
Memecoins are showing signs of life again after a prolonged weak period. The total market capitalisation stands at around $28.9 billion, up about 17% over the past month. At the same time, the sector remains more than 57% lower over a one-year period.
The price performance of well-known names such as Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, Pepe and Bonk is particularly striking, while some smaller memecoins have posted gains of tens of per cent in a single week.
Well-known memecoins draw attention again
The recovery is broadly visible. Dogecoin has risen around 16.3% over seven days, while Shiba Inu is 10.7% higher. Pepe has gained 28.6% and Bonk is up 22.3%.
FLOKI is also taking part with a weekly gain of 20.5%. Official Trump is around 36.3% higher and BinanceLife has risen 17.4%.
Among newer projects, the moves are even stronger. PumpFun has risen 42.4% in seven days and Pudgy Penguins has gained 43.3%. SPX6900 stands out with a jump of as much as 74.5%.
Not every memecoin is benefiting. MemeCore is around 6.5% lower over the same period, showing that the recovery does not automatically lift the entire sector.
Market capitalisation sits around end-2024 levels again
The total memecoin market is currently worth around $28.9 billion. That is roughly in line with levels seen at the end of 2024.
The gap from the peak, however, remains enormous. During the strong memecoin phase that began in late 2024 and continued into early 2025, the total market capitalisation rose to more than $137 billion, according to the supplied data.
From the current level, the sector would therefore need to add several tens of billions of dollars to come anywhere near that peak again.
Trading volume is also picking up again. According to the supplied information, the market processes an average of around $4 billion per day. At the time of the screenshot, volume stood at around $3 billion.
Capital seeks out speculative coins once more
The current move mainly shows that investors are once again willing to take on more risk. First, the larger coins benefit from the improved sentiment, after which capital also flows towards smaller and more speculative tokens.
This is clearly visible with coins such as SPX6900, Pudgy Penguins and PumpFun, which have risen much more strongly on a weekly basis than Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.
Even so, the difference from earlier memecoin rallies remains large. The market capitalisation is still more than 57% lower than a year ago and remains far from its former record.
The recovery is therefore clearly visible, but a full return to the euphoria of late 2024 and early 2025 is not yet on the cards. The coming weeks will mainly show whether the higher trading volume and rising prices can be sustained, or whether this is another temporary rebound.
