Los Angeles Sports Arena Renamed To Crypto.com Arena

The Staples center is a landmark in Los Angeles. It’s where the LA Lakers won so many titles, where the Clippers play and where the WNBA’s Sparks try and battle for the regional championship. The sports arena is also used for concerts of many celebrities and therefore anyone in Los Angeles knows which venue you mean when you mention the Staples Center.

This is about to change though as, after 22 years of operations, arena owner AEG announced this week that the stadium would change its name.

20 year agreement

Staples Center announced in a statement that it had entered into a 20-year agreement between AEG and Crypto.com. AEG owns and operates the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which is the official headquarters of four renowned professional sports franchises: the Lakers, Clippers and Spark, all basketball teams, and the Kings, a well known ice hockey team.

The paid some $700 million for the right to put its name on the arena, paid in cash and not in cryptocurrency of course.

The Staples Center, which has more than 20,000 seats, is all the more interesting for a publicity-seeking brand like Crypto.com, as the arena has hosted more than 15 Grammy Awards ceremonies in the past.

The next one will be held in January 2022.
