Former Deribit Owner Puts Multi-Million Amsterdam Property Up for Sale
Marius Jansen, known as one of the men behind crypto exchange Deribit, has put his home in Amsterdam South up for sale once again. For the semi-detached property in the popular Apollobuurt district, he is asking €12.4 million. Remarkably, Jansen bought the house only a year ago for €11 million, meaning the asking price is now €1.4 million higher. The crypto billionaire has already found somewhere new to live in the meantime.
From Deribit to Amsterdam property
Jansen made his name through Deribit, the crypto exchange he built up together with, among others, his brother John Jansen. In 2025, the brothers appear jointly at number 35 on the Quote 500. At that time, their combined wealth was estimated at €1.7 billion, although exactly how that fortune is split between the two is not known.
Deribit eventually ended up in Coinbase’s hands. Jansen can therefore now be described as a former owner of the exchange.
His Amsterdam property is now on the market. Quote reports that Jansen paid €11 million for the property exactly one year ago. The asking price now stands at €12.4 million, excluding buyer’s costs. If a buyer pays that amount, the sale price would be €1.4 million higher than the earlier purchase price. That works out at a difference of around 12.7%, without accounting for any costs related to the purchase, renovation and sale.
Six bedrooms and a private gym
For that multi-million sum, the buyer gets a plot of 600 square metres on a so-called super prime location in Amsterdam South. According to Quote, the price per square metre comes to €23.221.
The property has six bedrooms and several walk-in wardrobes. There is also a spacious kitchen-diner with plenty of marble and oak floorboards laid in a Hungarian point pattern.
In the basement, the luxury continues. It houses a private gym and sauna facilities. The house also has a garage, so the future owner can park a car on their own grounds.
New multi-million home already lined up
Jansen will not have to search for a new home if this sale goes through. According to Quote, he has in the meantime bought another house for a comparable multi-million sum.
This time he is swapping Amsterdam for Het Gooi.
Whether Jansen will actually receive €12.4 million for his Amsterdam home remains to be seen. For now, it is only the asking price and not a completed sale. He is nevertheless trying to get €1.4 million more for the property on paper just one year after buying it.
