Former British Chancellor had Wolf of Wall Street party to celebrate Bitcoin ATH

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill showed the excesses of Wall Street in the very popular 2013 film Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese. The film, about the life of stock trader Jordan Belfort, shows wild parties featuring half-naked models and a large amount of drugs.

It is said to show the worst side of finance.

Sushi from half-naked models

Over to 2024 and a crypto company (called Copper) chaired by former British Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond apparently held a similar party to celebrate Bitcoin’s new record of $74,000 earlier this month. A five-star hotel was rented, a large meeting room was bathed in red light and half-naked models lay on tables. From their bodies you could eat sushi.

The British press can’t get enough of it of course.

Stiff upper lip

Philip Hammond is pretty much the archetype of the classic British politician. “Stiff upper lip” and never saying anything wrong.

However, to celebrate Bitcoin’s latest record earlier this month, his company ‘Copper’ organized a party that doesn’t really match this image.

Bitcoin and crypto have been declared unacceptable by the British ‘upper class’ for years. That seemed to change in recent months because of the success of the Bitcoin ETF. However because of this story, it will take some more time before the wrinkles are ironed out.

The crypto company itself has not yet responded in detail to the stories, although it indicated that Mr Hammond himself was not present that evening.
