Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones Lost Laptop With 10,000 Bitcoins

In the beginning of the year, worldwide media was abuzz with a story of a German-born programmer who had only a few guesses left to access the Bitcoins he still had stored on his laptop.

After eight unsuccessful attempts to access his account, Stefan Thomas, a programmer in Silicon Valley, was down to his last two attempts. The former head of security of Facebook offered to help him access the 7,000 Bitcoins on the hard drive, at the time for a total value of $250 million. By now, those Bitcoins have doubled in value and Mr Thomas still has two guesses left.

By now, Alex Jones, the Infowars presenter and the man who introduced the world to the “gay frogs” theory, claims that his ordeal is in fact far worse. He received a laptop from known Bitcoin influencer Max Keiser with 10,000 Bitcoins on it, worth some $600 million in today’s value.

Only problem for Jones is, that he claims to have lost the laptop altogether.

Invited to another conspiracy theorist’s show (the host Andrew Schulz presents while brandishing a golden AK-47), Jones was asked whether he had become a fan of crypto by now.

He explained:

Ten years ago … Max Keiser comes to me and he says I have 10,000 bitcoins for you. This is the future. It will be the new global currency. He is on record. I lost the laptop he put the 10,000 bitcoins on. Today, what’s 10,000 bitcoins worth? A lot.

Max Keiser, who has a regular crypto segment on Russian channel Russia Today, confirms that he gave the laptop to Jones at the time, thinking that Jones would go far and that it would be a worthwhile investment.

Reddit commenters were less convinced though, knowing Jones’ ability to make up stuff. Most of them did not believe a word the Infowars host stated, although one man said:

I kinda believe him. He’s no dummy, but he seems to have the attention span of a squirrel on meth. I can believe he isn’t capable of tracking a laptop for years.
