Coinbase commercial for crypto in the UK… gets forbidden in the UK

Actually, I think Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has every right to be proud. Ever since his company’s commercial got banned by the British media regulator, he’s joined an enviable list. The last time a film or song was banned in the UK was Stanly Kubrick’s film A Clockwork Orange and The Sex Pistols’ song Anarchy in the UK. As from 2025, Coinbase’s “Everything is Fine” can join that list.

Commercial

Brian Armstrong was clearly proud that his commercial had caused such a stir in the UK. With “everything is fine,” he tried to persuade British politicians to allow crypto regulation in the UK. Instead, it got banned by media regulator Ofcom. The result was that Britons, whose internet use is strictly monitored (you need proof of age for watching NSFW videos since a few months in the UK), jumped on their VPNs to see what all the fuss was about. The Coinbase video, of course, went viral, and everyone had an opinion on it.

Now of course, if you’re Coinbase, you just can’t buy advertising like that.

The official explanation for the ban was that Coinbase was trying to sell crypto, which isn’t really allowed in the UK. According to the internet however, the British government was quick to ban the video because it showed how bad things currently are in their country.
