Bitcoin Touches $80.000 for First Time Since May, but $83K Is Now Crucial

Bitcoin continues its remarkable recovery, reaching $80.000 for the first time since May 2026. This brings the price ever closer to a technical level that analysts consider far more important than the psychological $80.000 barrier. Around $83.000 sits the previous major lower high. A break through it could considerably change the longer-term technical picture.

Bitcoin returns to $80.000

Bitcoin has been moving fast over the past few days. On the five-minute chart, BTC has climbed during the day from around $77.000 to $80.000. No major rejection has emerged around that level yet, and shortly afterwards the price is hovering around $79.946.

The pace of the rally is especially striking. Bitcoin has broken through several levels in quick succession where selling pressure had previously built up. Yet reaching $80.000 does not automatically mean the earlier downtrend is over.

On the longer-term chart, a series of lower highs and lower lows remains visible. That pattern develops when Bitcoin loses its earlier bullish market structure. Analyst Sjuul of AltCryptoGems therefore sees $83.000 as the next decisive level.

Why $83.000 matters more than $80.000

The $80.000 mark attracts plenty of attention because it is a round price level, but technically the more interesting zone lies a few thousand dollars higher.

On the shared three-day chart, the clearest recent lower high sits around $83.000. As long as Bitcoin remains below it, the current rally can still be viewed as a strong recovery within a broader downward structure.

A convincing move above $83.000 could change that. Bitcoin would then break the series of lower highs that has characterised the price structure in recent months. That would be an early serious sign that buyers on longer timeframes are attempting to regain control.

From the current zone around $80.000, Bitcoin still needs to gain roughly 3.75% to reach $83.000.

A strong recovery is not yet a confirmed bull market

The recent move clearly gives buyers more room to work with, but $83.000 now represents a major test. A brief move above that level is not necessarily sufficient either. Traders typically also look at how Bitcoin breaks out and whether the price can then hold above the former resistance.

A rejection around $83.000, by contrast, would mean the lower-high structure remains intact for the time being.

Bitcoin is therefore at an interesting tipping point. $80.000 is back on the board for the first time since May, but for the broader technical picture the real battle only begins a little higher. The next $3.000 or so could determine whether this move remains a powerful rebound or develops into a structural trend reversal.
