Bitcoin-to-euro conversion costs over eight times more at some exchanges
Anyone converting €1.000 worth of Bitcoin into euros will find that costs vary significantly depending on the crypto exchange they use. Fresh data from DefiLlama shows that fees at major MiCA-compliant trading platforms range from €1.61 to €13.27. The most expensive option in the comparison therefore costs more than eight times as much as the cheapest.
OKX comes out cheapest in the comparison
OKX tops the list as the cheapest option. According to the shared figures, converting €1.000 of Bitcoin into euros there costs €1.61. That works out at roughly 0.16% of the total amount.
Neverless follows at €2.86, with Bitvavo just behind at €3.11. On these three platforms, costs therefore stay comfortably below €5.
After that, the gap widens. Crypto.com charges €6.74 for the same transaction, while at Kraken the amount rises to €9.66.
The figures come from DefiLlama and focus on the cost of off-ramping €1.000 from Bitcoin into euros across a range of MiCA-compliant crypto exchanges.
Coinbase, Bybit and Gate EU are pricier
On the more expensive end of the comparison, Bybit EU charges €10.32. Coinbase then charges €12.61, while Gate EU has the highest fees in this comparison at €13.27.
At Gate EU, roughly 1.33% of the original €1.000 goes on costs. The difference between Gate EU and OKX amounts to €11.66 for the same value of Bitcoin.
For someone converting €1.000 just once, the difference in absolute terms remains relatively small. With larger amounts or regular transactions, however, such discrepancies can increasingly add up.
Fees differ by more than eight times
The full comparison shows a striking spread. OKX costs €1.61, Neverless €2.86, Bitvavo €3.11, Crypto.com €6.74, Kraken €9.66, Bybit EU €10.32, Coinbase €12.61 and Gate EU €13.27.
That makes the most expensive option more than eight times as costly as the cheapest. For European Bitcoin investors, it may therefore be worth looking closely at fees as well as ease of use and available features.
It is important to note, however, that rates can change and that the final cost may depend on the way a transaction is executed. The comparison therefore mainly offers a snapshot of the differences between the platforms examined.
