Bitcoin Records Largest Short Liquidation Ever as Crypto Market Adds $113B

Bitcoin has delivered a historic blow to short sellers today. Within the space of 24 hours, nearly $1.3 billion in BTC short positions have been liquidated. According to market analyst Joao Wedson, founder and CEO of Alphractal, this marks the largest daily Bitcoin short liquidation on record. At the same time, the total cryptocurrency market has grown by roughly $113 billion.

Bitcoin shorters lose nearly $1.3 billion

The liquidation figures highlight just how exceptional the price move has been. In Bitcoin, approximately $1.27 billion in shorts have been liquidated over 24 hours, against just $41.56 million in longs. Total BTC liquidations therefore come to around $1.31 billion.

Ethereum short sellers have also taken a heavy hit. Around $550.59 million in short positions have been wiped out, while total ETH liquidations stand at roughly $600 million.

Solana follows with $63.83 million in liquidated shorts. For XRP, the figure is above $11 million.

Across the entire crypto market, liquidations over 24 hours have climbed to approximately $2.24 billion.

Crypto market gains $113 billion

The wave of liquidations coincides with a broad rally. Bitcoin, Ethereum and several major altcoins are posting sharp gains, adding around $113 billion in total to the cryptocurrency market’s overall value.

The short squeeze may have amplified the move. When Bitcoin rises quickly, positions held by traders betting on a decline with leverage are automatically closed. Those closures require positions to be bought back, which can generate additional buying pressure.

Despite the spectacular recovery, the crypto market is still a long way from its record high. According to the figures provided, total market capitalisation remains roughly 50% below the all time high of around $4.8 trillion reached in October 2025.

Today’s rally has therefore taken a substantial bite out of earlier losses, but a significant further climb is still needed before the cryptocurrency market returns to its historical peak.
