Memecoin Shiba Inu got some bad news, Shark Tank star Mark Cuban proved that you cannot only win in crypto and a Belgian politician made headlines by getting his salary paid in Bitcoin. Here’s some weird crypto news you might have missed this week.

Shiba Inu gets bad news

During an earnings call, CEO Vlad Tenev of popular trading app Robinhood explained that his company was proactively engaging with regulators to respond to customers’ demands to list more cryptocurrencies.

Asked whether he would list Shiba Inu anytime soon, Vlad explained what most analysts understood as: we’re waiting to see the outcome of XRP versus SEX first. The Shibarmy was not amused to say the least.

Mark Cuban loses $200k

Shark Tank star and famed billionaire Mark Cuban admitted this week that a bet on a largely unknown cryptocoin resulted in a $200k loss. Cuban had gone for some yield farming, in a coin called Titan and ended up losing a fair amount of cash.

Cuban was quoted in the New York Times:

I should have done more homework on it. It was wrong to invest in cryptocurrencies that have no underlying reason for existing.

Belgian politician follows NY Mayor

It was to be expected that someone in Europe would follow the example of both the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, and the one of Miami, Francis Suarez, and get their own salary in Bitcoin.

Few foresaw the first European politician to do so to be the little known Belgian member of a conservative party. Brussels member of parliament Christophe De Beukelaere said:

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has spent three months collecting his Bitcoin salary to make New York the Bitcoin hub. I think it is not too late for Brussels and Belgium to play a leading role in the cryptocurrency industry.
