Amazon Looking At Bitcoin Payments And UK Goes Full "Britcoin"

As Bitcoin and major altcoins take a short breather today and traders do some profit taking, we look at the stories driving the crypto news.

Jeff Bezos was widely mocked last week for having gone into space in a rocket ship that looked like a [bleep]. On board of his own Blue Origin, he was accompanied by the son of a Dutch venture capitalist who paid 28 million dollar for a spot on the Amazon boss’s 4-seater. Guess we’re done sending the most physically fit or accomplished students with a PhD as from now. Only ultra-rich people and their children get to go then

Luckily his company Amazon is doing well without him and they are even planning for the future. A report in City AM, the UK financial newspaper that relies on rumors from business banks for their exclusives, claims that an insider told them that Amazon will soon add Bitcoin payment possibilities to the site. With some 80% of all US citizens having an Amazon Prime membership, that could be some major crypto adoption right there.

The article furthermore states that Ethereum, Cardano and Bitcoin Cash will be next in line before they bring about eight of the most popular cryptocurrencies online. It won’t take long because the plans are already there, and they have been working on them since 2019.

Let’s see how Alibaba will react to that one. Perhaps Beijing will quickly recall all those Bitcoin miners they ousted.

Bring on “Britcoin”

Rishi Sunak is often portrayed as an out of touch millionaire who just happened to stumble upon the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer (aka minister of finance) in the UK government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In the satiric Spitting Image show, he is mostly seen handing out cheques of ten million quid to get out of any problems that may arise within the halls of government.

Sunak is a man of the times though, and even with the Bank of England not being overly enthusiastic about anything Bitcoin, he believes otherwise.

As such, he is now pushing for the UK to introduce its own cryptocurrency and he’s even come up with a name for it. We kid you not, it’s called Britcoin. The originality is too grand on this one.
