Where can I buy USDC?

USDC is available at many regulated European exchanges and is the most common MiCA-compliant stablecoin tracking the US dollar. You can normally buy it directly with euros. Compare the EUR/USDC exchange rate and spread as well as the headline trading fee.

Circle issues USDC in the European Economic Area as an e-money token through a regulated European entity. This allows MiCA-authorised exchanges to offer it. Regulation reduces some legal uncertainty, but does not remove issuer, counterparty or de-pegging risk.

What is USDC?

USDC is a digital token designed to remain worth one US dollar. Circle launched the stablecoin in 2018. The issuer holds liquid reserve assets intended to cover the tokens in circulation. Eligible customers can redeem USDC with Circle for dollars; retail customers usually enter and exit through an exchange.

USDC runs on several blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Base and Arbitrum. It is used for payments, international transfers, crypto trading and decentralized finance.

USDC and the euro

A stable dollar price does not produce a stable euro value. If the dollar falls against the euro, the euro value of USDC falls too. You therefore take currency risk when your future spending is in euros. A euro stablecoin such as EURC may fit that purpose better, although it has its own risks.

Multiple networks

USDC on Ethereum, Solana and Base represents the same unit of account, but the tokens live on different networks. Before withdrawing, confirm that the exchange and receiving wallet support exactly the same blockchain. Also distinguish native USDC from versions created through a bridge.

Risks

  • De-pegging: USDC can temporarily trade above or below one dollar
  • Issuer risk: you depend on Circle and its reserves
  • Currency risk: the euro value moves with the dollar
  • Smart-contract and network risk: bugs, congestion or a wrong chain can cause losses
  • Freezing: the issuer can block addresses when legally required

The USDC price is not a guarantee of future stability. Check the provider’s terms and do your own research.
