What is Ravencoin?
Ravencoin is built on the code of Bitcoin, but with its own purpose: creating and sending your own tokens on the chain. A business or person can issue a token that represents, for example, a share, a voucher or a collectible, and send it directly between wallets.
The network went live on 3 January 2018 and had no ICO or premine: all coins come from mining. Ravencoin runs on Proof of Work with an algorithm deliberately suited to ordinary graphics cards rather than expensive specialised hardware, which spreads control over the network. RVN is the coin of the network and is used to pay for transactions and to create new tokens.
Storing Ravencoin in a wallet
After your purchase, your RVN sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
