The Filecoin price and volatility

What is Filecoin?
Filecoin is a network for decentralized storage. Instead of keeping your files with one large company, Filecoin spreads them across a worldwide network of providers who make storage space available. Whoever provides storage has to put up FIL as collateral and prove that the data stays safely stored, and receives a reward for it. FIL is the coin used to pay for that storage.
The project comes from Protocol Labs, the company of Juan Benet that is also behind the well-known IPFS, a protocol for sharing files in a distributed way. The Filecoin network went live in 2020. Since 2023 Filecoin also supports smart contracts through the Filecoin Virtual Machine, so more can be built on top of the storage network.
Storing Filecoin in a wallet
After your purchase, your FIL sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. You can use:
