How to buy Yearn Finance, step by step
Check whether the exchange offers YFI
Not every exchange with a MiCA authorisation lists Yearn.Finance. Check the overview above and the trading pair, usually YFI/EUR or YFI/USDT.
Complete your identity check
Under MiCA a KYC check is mandatory. You upload a valid ID document and take a selfie or short video, usually done within a few minutes.
Deposit euros
Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. A SEPA transfer is free but takes a business day.
Buy YFI
Choose Yearn.Finance, enter an amount in euros and confirm. You do not have to buy a whole YFI, a small part is fine, as the price per coin can be high.
Store your YFI
Leave your YFI on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. With YFI you can vote on proposals about the Yearn protocol.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy Yearn Finance with:

- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank

- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy Yearn.Finance?
You can buy Yearn.Finance at the YFI exchanges we show on this page, from as little as € 5. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
- Your euros and crypto are kept separate from the exchange’s own assets
- Costs and risks must be stated clearly in advance
- A KYC identity check is mandatory
An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which stays with you.
The Yearn.Finance price and volatility
Investing in Yearn.Finance is risky, as the YFI price can rise and fall quickly. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you can afford to lose.
What is Yearn.Finance?
Yearn.Finance is a DeFi project on Ethereum that tries to automate earning interest on crypto. You put your crypto in a so-called vault, and smart contracts move that balance automatically to the place with the best return at that moment across other DeFi protocols. That way you do not have to keep shifting it by hand.
YFI is the governance token of the project. Holders can submit and vote on proposals. YFI became well known in 2020 for its fair start: there was no pre-sale or reservation for the team, and the total number of coins is small. As a result the price per YFI is often high, but you can simply buy a small part. The project was set up by Andre Cronje, who has since stepped back, while a community of developers carries it on.
Storing Yearn.Finance in a wallet
After your purchase, your YFI sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: built in at the exchange, easy, but you do not hold the keys
- Software wallet: MetaMask, OKX Wallet or Trust Wallet (YFI is an ERC20 token, so any Ethereum wallet works)
- Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger or Trezor that keeps your keys offline, safest for larger amounts
With a wallet of your own you get a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever has those words has access to your YFI, so keep it offline, never share it and never take a photo of it. If you lose the recovery phrase, your Yearn.Finance cannot be recovered.
How do I choose an exchange to buy Yearn.Finance?
Every exchange delivers the same YFI, so the difference is in the terms:
- How high the trading fees and the spread are
- Which regulator granted the MiCA authorisation
- Whether Yearn.Finance is offered
- Whether there is an app and support in your language
- Which payment methods are available (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The Yearn.Finance price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
