How to buy Uma, step by step

1

Check whether the exchange offers UMA

Not every exchange with a MiCA authorisation lists UMA. Check the overview above and the trading pair, usually UMA/EUR or UMA/USDT.

2

Complete your identity check

Under MiCA a KYC check is mandatory. You upload a valid ID document and take a selfie or short video, usually done within a few minutes.

3

Deposit euros

Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. A SEPA transfer is free but takes a business day.

4

Buy UMA

Choose UMA, enter an amount in euros and confirm. UMA is an ERC20 token, so sending it over Ethereum involves network fees.

5

Store or vote

Leave your UMA on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. With UMA you can take part in the optimistic oracle by voting on disputes.

Payment methods

You can fund your account and buy Uma with:

  • iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
  • Bancontact: Direct (BE)
  • SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
  • Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
  • PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
  • Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%

Where can I buy UMA?

You can buy UMA at the UMA exchanges we show on this page, from as little as € 5. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation

Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:

  • The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
  • Your euros and crypto are kept separate from the exchange’s own assets
  • Costs and risks must be stated clearly in advance
  • A KYC identity check is mandatory

An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which stays with you.

The UMA price and volatility

Investing in UMA is risky, as the price can rise and fall quickly. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you can afford to lose.

What is UMA?

UMA is a DeFi project on Ethereum best known for its optimistic oracle. An oracle brings information from outside the blockchain to smart contracts, for example whether a certain event happened. UMA’s oracle works on an optimistic basis: a stated answer is assumed to be correct unless someone challenges it within a set period, after which token holders settle the dispute. That mechanism is used by other applications, among them a cross-chain bridge and prediction markets.

UMA is the token of the protocol. Holders take part in governance and can vote on disputes in the oracle, and they are rewarded for doing so honestly.

Storing UMA in a wallet

After your purchase, your UMA sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:

  • Exchange wallet: built in at the exchange, easy, but you do not hold the keys
  • Software wallet: MetaMask, OKX Wallet or Trust Wallet (UMA is an ERC20 token, so any Ethereum wallet works)
  • Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger or Trezor that keeps your keys offline, safest for larger amounts

With a wallet of your own you get a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever has those words has access to your UMA, so keep it offline, never share it and never take a photo of it. If you lose the recovery phrase, your UMA cannot be recovered.

How do I choose an exchange to buy UMA?

Every exchange delivers the same UMA, so the difference is in the terms:

  • How high the trading fees and the spread are
  • Which regulator granted the MiCA authorisation
  • Whether UMA is offered
  • Whether there is an app and support in your language
  • Which payment methods are available (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)

The UMA price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
