How to buy Tezos, step by step
Choose an exchange with a MiCA authorisation
Find an exchange in the list above that holds a MiCA authorisation and offers Tezos. Create an account and switch on two-factor authentication straight away.
Complete your identity check
MiCA makes a KYC check compulsory. You supply a valid ID and record a selfie or short video, normally finished in a few minutes.
Deposit euros
Fund your account from € 5 via credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero. Card and Wero are almost instant; the free SEPA route takes about a business day.
Buy XTZ
Choose Tezos, enter an amount in euros and confirm. A fraction of an XTZ is fine, at the price applying at that moment.
Store or stake it
Leave your XTZ on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. On Tezos, staking is called baking; you can delegate your XTZ and receive a reward.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy Tezos with:
- iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
- Bancontact: Direct (BE)
- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
- PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy Tezos?
You can buy Tezos at various European exchanges from as little as € 5. We include only exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
The European Union brought MiCA into force on 30 December 2024. Transitional cover for firms registered under the previous rules ran out in 2025, and a national registration alone is therefore no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- A regulator within the EU supervises the exchange at all times
- Client euros and crypto must be segregated from the company’s own assets
- Costs and risks have to be presented transparently up front
- Identity checks under KYC rules are mandatory
An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which sits with you.
The Tezos price and volatility
Investing in crypto is risky and the value can rise or fall. The chart below gives an impression of how the XTZ price has moved over time. Only invest money you could do without.

What is Tezos?
Tezos is a blockchain that supports smart contracts and decentralized applications. It stands out on two points. First, the network can update itself without a hard split of the chain: new upgrades are adopted through a built-in voting system in which holders have a say. Second, Tezos works with Proof of Stake instead of energy-hungry Proof of Work, which makes the network more efficient.
The project was set up by Arthur and Kathleen Breitman and went live in 2018, after one of the largest crowdfunding rounds of 2017. Around that early period there were legal disputes, which were later settled. Since then Tezos has been developed further, including Etherlink, a faster layer on which applications from the Ethereum ecosystem can run.
Staking Tezos (baking)
Because Tezos works with Proof of Stake, you can put your XTZ to work to help secure the network and receive a reward. On Tezos this is called baking. Running a baker yourself requires technical knowledge, but you can also simply delegate your XTZ to an existing baker, or stake through an exchange that offers it. When staking through an exchange, your XTZ sits with a third party, usually for a fee taken from the reward, and the reward is not fixed.
Storing Tezos in a wallet
After your purchase, your XTZ sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: supplied at the exchange, simple, though you do not hold the keys
- Software wallet: Temple or Kukai, built for Tezos
- Hardware wallet: a Ledger or Trezor that holds your keys offline, the safest way to keep larger amounts
Owning your wallet gives you a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. Anyone who has it can access your XTZ, so keep it offline, never share it and never photograph it. If you lose it, your Tezos cannot be restored.
How do I choose an exchange to buy Tezos?

XTZ is the same coin wherever you buy it, so the terms are what differ:
- What the trading fee and the spread come to
- Which European supervisor granted the MiCA authorisation
- Whether XTZ is offered and whether you can stake through the exchange
- How quickly it is delivered after payment
- Whether there is an app and a helpdesk in your language
- Which payment methods it offers (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
