How to buy Icon, step by step
Check whether the exchange offers ICX
Not every exchange with a MiCA authorisation lists ICON. Check the overview above and the trading pair, usually ICX/EUR or ICX/USDT.
Complete your identity check
Under MiCA a KYC check is mandatory. You upload a valid ID document and take a selfie or short video, usually done within a few minutes.
Deposit euros
Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. A SEPA transfer is free but takes a business day.
Buy ICX
Choose ICON, enter an amount in euros and confirm. A fraction of an ICX is fine, at the price applying at that moment.
Store or vote
Leave your ICX on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. By delegating ICX to a P-Rep you take part in the network and earn a reward.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy Icon with:
- iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
- Bancontact: Direct (BE)
- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
- PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy ICON?
You can buy ICON at the ICX exchanges we show on this page, from as little as € 5. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
- Your euros and crypto are kept separate from the exchange’s own assets
- Costs and risks must be stated clearly in advance
- A KYC identity check is mandatory
An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which stays with you.
The ICON price and volatility
Investing in ICON is risky, as the ICX price can rise and fall quickly. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you can afford to lose.
What is ICON?
ICON is a blockchain project from South Korea that started in 2017 through an ICO. Its aim is to connect worlds: different blockchains and organisations that communicate with each other. For that, ICON built among other things BTP, a protocol to send value and data between separate networks.
ICX is the coin of the ICON network. Unlike in its early days, ICX no longer runs as a token on Ethereum but on its own blockchain, which has been live since 2018. The network uses a form of Delegated Proof of Stake: holders of ICX delegate their vote to so-called P-Reps that produce the blocks, and earn a reward for it.
Storing ICON in a wallet
After your purchase, your ICX sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: built in at the exchange, easy, but you do not hold the keys
- Software wallet: an ICON wallet such as Hana Wallet (formerly ICONex), with which you can manage and delegate ICX
- Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger that keeps your keys offline, safest for larger amounts
With a wallet of your own you get a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever has those words has access to your ICX, so keep it offline, never share it and never take a photo of it. If you lose the recovery phrase, your ICON cannot be recovered.
How do I choose an exchange to buy ICON?
Every exchange delivers the same ICX, so the difference is in the terms:
- How high the trading fees and the spread are
- Which regulator granted the MiCA authorisation
- Whether ICON is offered
- Whether there is an app and support in your language
- Which payment methods are available (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The ICON price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
