How to buy Compound, step by step

1

Check whether the exchange offers COMP

Not every exchange with a MiCA authorisation lists Compound. Check the overview above and the trading pair, usually COMP/EUR or COMP/USDT.

2

Complete your identity check

Under MiCA a KYC check is mandatory. You upload a valid ID document and take a selfie or short video, usually done within a few minutes.

3

Deposit euros

Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. A SEPA transfer is free but takes a business day.

4

Buy COMP

Choose Compound, enter an amount in euros and confirm. COMP is an ERC20 token, so sending it over Ethereum involves network fees.

5

Store your COMP

Leave your COMP on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. With COMP you can vote on proposals about the Compound protocol.

Payment methods

You can fund your account and buy Compound with:

  • iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
  • Bancontact: Direct (BE)
  • SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
  • Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
  • PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
  • Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%

Where can I buy Compound?

You can buy Compound at the COMP exchanges we show on this page, from as little as € 5. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation

Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:

  • The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
  • Your euros and crypto are kept separate from the exchange’s own assets
  • Costs and risks must be stated clearly in advance
  • A KYC identity check is mandatory

An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which stays with you.

The Compound price and volatility

Investing in Compound is risky, as the COMP price can rise and fall quickly. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you can afford to lose.

What is Compound?

Compound is one of the best-known DeFi protocols on Ethereum. It is a money market where you can lend out crypto to earn interest, or post crypto as collateral to borrow against it. This happens entirely through smart contracts, without a middleman. The interest rate moves automatically with supply and demand per coin. The protocol launched in 2018, founded by Robert Leshner.

COMP is the governance token of the protocol. Holders can submit and vote on proposals, for example about which coins are supported and which parameters apply. COMP became well known in 2020 as one of the first tokens handed out to users based on their use of the protocol, something later called liquidity mining.

Storing Compound in a wallet

After your purchase, your COMP sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:

  • Exchange wallet: built in at the exchange, easy, but you do not hold the keys
  • Software wallet: MetaMask, OKX Wallet or Trust Wallet (COMP is an ERC20 token, so any Ethereum wallet works)
  • Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger or Trezor that keeps your keys offline, safest for larger amounts

With a wallet of your own you get a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever has those words has access to your COMP, so keep it offline, never share it and never take a photo of it. If you lose the recovery phrase, your Compound cannot be recovered.

How do I choose an exchange to buy Compound?

Every exchange delivers the same COMP, so the difference is in the terms:

  • How high the trading fees and the spread are
  • Which regulator granted the MiCA authorisation
  • Whether Compound is offered
  • Whether there is an app and support in your language
  • Which payment methods are available (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)

The Compound price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
