How to buy Algorand, step by step
Choose an exchange with a MiCA authorisation
Find an exchange in the list above that holds a MiCA authorisation and offers Algorand. Create an account and switch on two-factor authentication straight away.
Complete your identity check
Under MiCA a KYC check is mandatory. You upload a valid ID document and take a selfie or short video, usually done within a few minutes.
Deposit euros
Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. A SEPA transfer is free but takes a business day.
Buy ALGO
Choose Algorand, enter an amount in euros and confirm. A fraction of an ALGO is fine, at the price applying at that moment.
Store or stake it
Leave your ALGO on the exchange or send it to a wallet of your own. Holding ALGO in a supported wallet lets you take part in the network.

Where can I buy Algorand?
You can buy Algorand at the ALGO exchanges we show on this page, from as little as € 5. We only show exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- The exchange is under ongoing supervision by an EU regulator
- Your euros and crypto are kept separate from the exchange’s own assets
- Costs and risks must be stated clearly in advance
- A KYC identity check is mandatory
An authorisation says nothing about the price risk, which stays with you.
The Algorand price and volatility
Investing in Algorand is risky, as the ALGO price can rise and fall quickly. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Only invest money you can afford to lose.

What is Algorand?
Algorand is a Layer 1 blockchain for smart contracts and applications, built around speed, low costs and finality. It was founded by Silvio Micali, a cryptographer at MIT, and its network went live in 2019. Transactions confirm in seconds and, once confirmed, are final, so there is no waiting for extra confirmations. The fees are low and the network is designed to be energy-efficient.
Algorand runs on a pure Proof of Stake model, in which the right to produce blocks is spread across holders rather than energy-intensive mining. ALGO is the coin of the network: it is used to pay transaction fees and to take part in securing and governing the network.
Storing Algorand in a wallet
After your purchase, your ALGO sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:
- Exchange wallet: built in at the exchange, easy, but you do not hold the keys
- Software wallet: an Algorand wallet such as Pera Wallet or Defly, for mobile and browser
- Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger that keeps your keys offline, safest for larger amounts
With a wallet of your own you get a recovery phrase of usually twenty-five words for Algorand. Whoever has those words has access to your ALGO, so keep it offline, never share it and never take a photo of it. If you lose the recovery phrase, your Algorand cannot be recovered.
How do I choose an exchange to buy Algorand?
Every exchange delivers the same ALGO, so the difference is in the terms:
- How high the trading fees and the spread are
- Which regulator granted the MiCA authorisation
- Whether Algorand is offered
- Whether there is an app and support in your language
- Which payment methods are available (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The Algorand price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
