Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so an exchange now needs a MiCA authorisation to offer crypto services in the EU. The Aave price and volatility
Investing in cryptocurrency is risky. The price can rise quickly, but you can also lose a large part of your stake. The chart below gives an impression of how the AAVE price has moved over time. Past movements say nothing about the future, so only use money you can afford to lose. A MiCA authorisation of the exchange says something about supervision, not about that price risk.
What is Aave?
Aave is one of the largest and most used DeFi protocols on the market. Through Aave, users can lend and borrow cryptocurrencies without a bank or other financial institution in between. Whoever lends out funds earns interest, whoever borrows puts up crypto as collateral. The protocol was set up by Stani Kulechov, started in 2017 under the name ETHLend and was renamed Aave in 2020. It runs on several blockchains, including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism.
The AAVE token plays a central role. Holders can vote on proposals about the protocol, and you can stake AAVE in the so-called Safety Module, which helps protect the protocol in return for a reward. Keep in mind that your stake in such a module can be drawn on if a shortfall arises in the protocol. In recent years Aave has been developed further with version 3 and work on version 4, and it introduced its own decentralized stablecoin, GHO, which is pegged to the dollar.
Storing Aave in a wallet
After your purchase, your AAVE sits in the exchange wallet, which controls the keys. For larger amounts or longer-term storage, a wallet of your own is safer. Your options:

- Software wallet: MetaMask, OKX Wallet or Trust Wallet (AAVE is an ERC20 token, so any Ethereum wallet works)

With a self-managed wallet you get a recovery phrase of usually twelve or twenty-four words. That phrase gives full access to your AAVE, so keep it offline, never share it and never snap a picture of it. Without it, your Aave is unrecoverable.
