Cheapest way to buy 0x
With a smaller token like ZRX it is not only about the trading fee. Also watch the spread, which is often wider for thinly traded altcoins than the visible fee. The overview shows the current costs per exchange.
Effective fees include our exclusive discounts where available. Fees are indicative; check the exchange for current rates.
Cost of buying 1 0x
The table below shows the trading fees you would pay at each exchange, based on the live price. For low-priced coins the calculation uses a purchase of €100 so the fees stay meaningful.

How to buy 0x, step by step
Check first whether the exchange offers ZRX
Not every exchange with a MiCA authorisation lists 0x. Check the overview above and the trading pair, usually ZRX/EUR or ZRX/USDT.
Open an account and verify yourself
You register with your email and complete the identity check with a valid ID document. Then switch on two-factor authentication, just as important for an altcoin account as for a Bitcoin account.
Deposit euros
Deposit from € 5 by credit card, a SEPA bank transfer or Wero, which lands almost instantly. Trading ZRX against USDT instead of euros? Then convert your euros to that stablecoin first.
Place your order for ZRX
A market order buys straight away at the current price. A limit order lets you set your own entry price, which matters with the thin order book of an altcoin.
Decide where to store your ZRX
ZRX is an ERC20 token, so any Ethereum wallet can store it. For the long term choose a hardware wallet, for using 0x applications a software wallet such as MetaMask.
Payment methods
You can fund your account and buy 0x with:
- iDEAL: Direct, gratis (NL)
- Bancontact: Direct (BE)
- SEPA overboeking: Gratis bankoverschriving, 1 werkdag
- Wero: Direct van bank naar bank
- PayPal: Hoge fee van 2%
- Creditcard: Hoge fees van rond de 3%
Where can I buy 0x?
We list purely exchanges that hold a MiCA authorisation. Since the national transition arrangements ended in the course of 2025, an exchange may only offer crypto services with such an authorisation from an EU regulator. You pay by credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero.

Keep in mind that the offering for ZRX is narrower than for the big coins. In late 2025 and early 2026 the token became less widely tradable: Bitfinex delisted ZRX entirely and Binance dropped a number of spot and margin pairs. If the token is not at your usual exchange, there are two routes:
- Buy at another exchange with a MiCA authorisation that does list ZRX
- Swap it yourself on a decentralized exchange from your own wallet. You then first buy Ethereum or a stablecoin at a regulated exchange and swap it, paying network fees and taking responsibility for your own private keys
Only exchanges with a MiCA authorisation
Since 30 December 2024 the MiCA regulation applies across the European Union, and national transition arrangements for previously registered firms ended in the course of 2025, so a national registration alone is no longer enough. What a MiCA authorisation means for you:
- The provider answers to continuous supervision by an EU regulator
- Customer euros and crypto are kept distinct from the provider’s own assets
- Costs and risks are required to be stated plainly up front
- A KYC check on your identity is mandatory
The authorisation says nothing about price risk, and that stays with you. An altcoin with a smaller market capitalisation moves harder than Bitcoin, both up and down.
The 0x price and volatility
Investing in ZRX is risky, as the price can move sharply up and down, more so than a large coin. The chart below gives an impression of how the price has moved over time. Put at risk only what you can afford to lose.

What is 0x?
0x is not an exchange but the infrastructure others can use to build one. The protocol consists of smart contracts on Ethereum and on EVM networks such as Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche and BNB Chain. Developers plug that functionality into their own app through the Swap API.
The core is the combination of off chain and on chain. Orders are gathered and shared off the blockchain by so-called relayers. Only at the moment an order is actually filled does the transaction go to the blockchain for settlement. That saves cost and time, because you pay no network fees for orders that never lead to a deal, and you keep ownership of your own coins, since the trade runs from your wallet rather than an account at a company.
In practice you come across 0x more often than you think. The Swap API powers the swap function in MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Phantom, Robinhood Wallet, Trust Wallet and Zerion, among others. On top of that 0x Labs has its own consumer product: Matcha, an aggregator that splits your order across several venues to find the best price. Since version 4 of the protocol, 0x also supports NFT standards such as ERC721 and ERC1155, alongside ordinary ERC20 tokens.
What does the ZRX token do?
ZRX has two functions. The token gives voting rights in the governance of the protocol, where holders decide on proposals and upgrades. In addition, ZRX can be staked, with which market makers and relayers earn rewards for the liquidity they provide.
Important to know before you buy: you do not need ZRX to carry out a swap through 0x. Demand for the token therefore comes mainly from governance and staking, not from daily use. That explains why protocol usage and the token price do not always move at the same pace. Within governance there has long been discussion about reintroducing protocol fees that flow to token holders.
Developments in 2025 and 2026
The project has clearly shifted from an order book protocol to a universal swap layer across multiple networks:
- Support for the Monad network from its mainnet launch in November 2025
- Expansion towards Solana, after acquiring the team behind Flood
- HyperEVM available through the Swap API since March 2026
- Matcha Meta, an aggregator on top of other aggregators that picks the route with the best execution
- A collaboration with Dune Analytics in March 2026 for on chain data on trading behaviour and liquidity
- A Cross Chain API in June 2026, with twelve bridge partners under a single connection
The SwapNet incident of January 2026
In January 2026 users of Matcha Meta lost around 13.4 million dollars. The cause lay with SwapNet, a routing contract from a third party that had been included as one of the possible routes in Matcha Meta. That contract was not open source and checked entered parameters insufficiently, which let an attacker redirect approved funds.
Two things are relevant here. The core contracts of the 0x protocol itself were not compromised. And the twenty affected users had all manually switched off the default protection of Matcha Meta, under which an approval only applies to a single transaction. So leave that setting on if you work with this kind of application.
Who is behind 0x?
0x was set up in 2016 by Will Warren and Amir Bandeali, both specialised in smart contracts. The organisation now operates under the name 0x Labs, and its investors include parties such as Pantera Capital, Polychain Capital, Greylock Partners and Coinbase Ventures. The reason for the project was simple: trading tokens was too expensive and cumbersome in 2016. The testnet went online at the end of 2016 and the whitepaper appeared in February 2017.
In August 2017 an ICO followed in which 500 million ZRX was sold to some twelve thousand participants, good for 24 million dollars, half of the maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. In October 2018 ZRX became the first ERC20 token listed on Coinbase. After that the protocol versions followed each other: v2 in 2018, v3 in 2019 with the introduction of staking, and v4 in 2021 with aggregation across multiple venues.
Storing 0x in a wallet
ZRX is an ERC20 token and therefore fits in any wallet that supports Ethereum. You roughly have three options:
- Exchange wallet: the easiest, but you do not manage the keys yourself, fine for small amounts or if you trade actively
- Software wallet: MetaMask, OKX Wallet or Trust Wallet, handy if you want to carry out swaps yourself, though your private keys sit on an internet-connected device
- Hardware wallet: a device such as a Ledger or Trezor that keeps your keys offline, the safest way for amounts you hold for longer
A wallet of your own comes with a recovery phrase of twelve or twenty-four words. Whoever holds those words controls your ZRX, so keep it offline, tell no one and take no photo of it. If the phrase is lost, your 0x cannot be restored.
How do I choose an exchange to buy 0x?
Whichever exchange you pick, the ZRX is identical, so weigh the terms:
- Fair and transparent ZRX prices and service costs, without unexpected charges
- Which regulator is behind the MiCA authorisation
- Whether ZRX is offered at all, given the delistings elsewhere
- An easy buy and sell system and a mobile app
- Which payment options are on the table (credit card, SEPA bank transfer or Wero)
The ZRX price can move sharply, and an authorisation does not change that. Bear in mind that the token does not automatically benefit from growing protocol usage as long as no fees flow back to holders, and that it disappeared from a number of large venues in 2025 and 2026, which limits its tradability. Decide for yourself how much you can afford to lose and do your own research.
